HILLSDALE, Mich. — The Hillsdale College Jazz Big Band orchestra presented its fall mainstage performance on Dec. 2. The concert occurred in Hillsdale College’s Plaster Auditorium and was open to students, faculty, staff, and members of the Hillsdale community.

The band played classic jazz and big band pieces, including “America, the Beautiful” and “Don’t Get Around Much Anymore,” as well as Christmas selections including “A Child is Born” and “White Christmas.”

“It is such a joy to share vibrant jazz and big band music with the Hillsdale community,” said Chris McCourry, director of jazz ensembles at Hillsdale College. “The majority of the concert featured fan-favorite jazz pieces, but we added big band renditions of several Christmas carols into the program to celebrate the Christmas season.”

The Hillsdale College Jazz Big Band is a twenty-plus piece jazz ensemble modeled after the standard instrumentation of the popular groups of the swing era. The groups present multiple performances each semester, both on and off campus.
