Hillsdale College Presents Lessons and Carols Christmas Service

HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College presented its annual Lessons and Carols Christmas service featuring the Chapel Choir on Dec. 3 in Christ Chapel. The event included Christmas carols and Scripture readings and was open to all.

“This service reminds us of the wonderful gift of Christ as we celebrate this Christmas Season,” said Rev. Adam Rick, Hillsdale College chaplain. The Lessons and Carols service was developed in late 19th-century England. It has since become popular in churches around the world, owing in large measure to King’s College Cambridge’s live broadcast of their service every Christmas Eve since 1928. In addition to songs performed by the Chapel Choir, the service featured carols such as “O Little Town of Bethlehem” and “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing” sung along with the congregation. Rick and members of the college community read lessons of Scripture that told the nativity story.
