HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College student vocalists presented scenes from various operas on Oct. 28 in the McNamara Rehearsal Hall. The Opera Workshop performances featured music by Mozart, Donizetti, Puccini, and others, and was open to students, their families, faculty, staff, and members of the community.

“The Opera Workshop performances are excellent opportunities for these talented students to showcase their hard work,” said Emily Douglass, voice coordinator and artist-teacher at Hillsdale College. “They performed very well, and it was great to see many students, faculty, and members of the local community there.”

Douglass and Adjunct Instructor of Music Kristen Matson co-directed the performance, which featured eleven scenes in English, French, German, and Italian. Seniors Henry Hansen and Ethan Rohrbach, as well as Tom Ryskamp, adjunct instructor of music at Hillsdale, served as the accompanists.

Auditions were held and open to all Hillsdale College students. Twenty-six student singers were selected to perform, including John Jordan, senior theatre major. “It’s great to take my repertoire out of the practice room and into a space with other singers,” Jordan said. “Collaboration between a cast, director, and accompanist is a special experience for which I’m very grateful.”

Photos of the performance can be found here. More information about upcoming productions of the Hillsdale College Music Department can be found here.
