Hillsdale College Psychology Professor Collin Barnes Named Professor of the Year
HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College congratulates Associate Professor of Psychology Collin Barnes on being named Professor of the Year by the College’s 2023 graduating class. The award was announced during the President’s Commencement Dinner on May 5.
“At Hillsdale College, we are blessed to have a tremendously dedicated and talented faculty,” said Provost Christopher VanOrman. “By all accounts, Dr. Barnes is an excellent teacher and scholar. For him to have been selected among such a strong pool of professors is a high honor.”
Barnes has taught at Hillsdale College since 2012. He regularly teaches Introductory Psychology and offers seminars on the thought of Michael Polanyi, William James, and Carl Jung. He has published peer-reviewed articles in leading academic journals including the “Journal of Theoretical and Philosophical Psychology” and the “Journal for the Theory of Social Behavior.”
“It is an honor to receive Professor of the Year,” said Barnes. “Every semester, I am amazed by my students’ dedication and love for learning. The class of 2023 is an exceptional group of students, and I look forward to seeing their future successes.”
To be named Professor of the Year, professors must demonstrate exceptional character and teaching excellence, availability, and generosity in their work with students outside the classroom, community support, and good citizenship through involvement in campus and community organizations and events. Professors are nominated by students through a signed letter of recommendation. As Professor of Year, Barnes will speak at next year’s fall convocation.
