Hillsdale College Radio Students Earn Top Honors from Intercollegiate Broadcast System

Stefan Kleinhenz and Matt Montgomery received first-place awards at Intercollegiate Broadcast System Annual Awards Ceremony

Hillsdale, Mich. – Hillsdale College congratulates student broadcasters Stefan Kleinhenz and Matt Montgomery, who received first-place awards at the Intercollegiate Broadcast System’s (IBS) 80th Annual International Media Conference on March 7, 2020, in New York City.

“The programming our students produce is among the best in the country, and I’m proud to see it recognized with these awards,” said Scot Bertram, general manager of WRFH/Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM. “Stefan and Matt both have consistently created important and high-quality content, and they have set the bar high for future student broadcasters at WRFH.”

WRFH/Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM is Hillsdale College’s student-run radio station, where students report, produce, and host a variety of news and talk programs. Junior Stefan Kleinhenz received first place in the “Best News Interview” category for his interview with former governor of Wisconsin Scott Walker at the 2019 Conservative Political Action Conference. Graduate Matt Montgomery received first place in the “Best Specialty Music Show” category for his work on the original program “The Spin Room.”

IBS presents awards each year to college and high school media outlets across more than 100 categories. The 2020 award winners were selected from more than 3,000 submissions from schools around the country. In addition to the two first-place awards, WRFH garnered a total of six finalist nominations, which represent the top five percent of submissions to the awards program.
