Hillsdale College Religion Department Hosts 5th Annual Gershom Lecture Series
Mark Nanos discusses the importance of Judaism in Christian theology and Biblical studies
Hillsdale, Mich. – On November 7-8, Hillsdale College presented the 5th annual Gershom Lecture Series. The series featured University of Kansas lecturer Mark Nanos, whose talks addressed the critical importance of Judaism to understanding the role of the church and the writings of Paul the apostle.
Over two days, Nanos presented three lectures on the influence of Judaism in the Apostle Paul’s writings: “How Could Paul Represent Judaism?”, “Was Paul Promoting Judaism in the Epistles?” and “Did Paul Argue that the ‘Church’ Replaced ‘Israel’?” Currently a lecturer at the University of Kansas, Nanos received his B.A. from the University of Missouri and Ph.D. from the University of St. Andrews. He is a member of the Society of Biblical Literature.
The Gershom Lecture Series, hosted annually by the Hillsdale College department of philosophy and religion, invites leading scholars and thinkers from across the country to share their research on the relationship between Judaism and Christianity and examine the influence of these global religions on modern society.
