Hillsdale College Remembers Trustee Emeritus Fred M. Butler

HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College is saddened by the passing of former Board member Fred M. Butler. Butler, who served on the college’s board of trustees for 12 years, passed away at 88 years old.

“Fred Butler was a great human being and friend of the college,” said Rich Péwé, chief administrative officer of Hillsdale College. “We are indebted to him for his exceptional years of service and generosity. Our prayers are with his family.”

Butler joined the Hillsdale College Board of Trustees in 2011 and served on the Finance and Outreach committees. He was also a generous financial supporter of the institution, contributing substantially to the work of the college and establishing the Fred & Karen Butler Merit Scholarship. Butler worked for the Guy F. Atkinson Company for over thirty years and was the president and CEO of The Manitowoc Company, Inc.
