Hillsdale College Remembers Trustee Emeritus Stephen S. Higley

HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College is saddened by the passing of alumnus and long-time friend of the college, Stephen S. Higley. Higley, who served on the college’s Board of Trustees for nearly 40 years, died on June 22, 2023.

“We are immensely grateful for Stephen Higley and his dedication to the college,” said Rich Péwé, chief administrative officer of Hillsdale College. “We extend our deepest condolences to his family.”

Higley joined the Hillsdale College Board of Trustees in 1983. In addition to his years of service on the Board, Higley served as the President of Hillsdale’s Alumni Association and gave generously to the college. He supported Hillsdale College’s athletic and music programs and the Slayton Arboretum. After graduating from Hillsdale College in 1966, Higley had a 33-year career in the steel industry and served as the president and CEO of Ameristeel Bright Bar, Inc.
