Hillsdale College Sailing Club Wins Fall Regattas
Crew members took first place at their Sept. 17-18 and Oct. 8-9 regatta invitationals
HILLSDALE, Mich. — The Hillsdale College Sailing Club had a strong performance at two Midwest Collegiate Sailing Association regattas, taking first place in both competitions.
The Sailing Club’s freshmen crew took first place at the Detroit Yacht Club Regatta on Sept. 17-18. This was the club’s first regatta of the 2022 season, and they competed against sailing clubs and teams from other Midwest colleges.
“All the sailors who competed in the Detroit regatta are in their first year at Hillsdale and placing first in a regatta is an amazing feat for sailors of any level, let alone this early on in their collegiate careers,” said senior Emily Marsh, president of the Sailing Club. “It is particularly impressive because they were sailing on unfamiliar triple-handed sloops rather than our typical double-handed ones.”
Members of the Sailing Club also took first place at Indiana University’s Hoosier Regatta on Oct. 8-9, the last regatta of the season.
“We are proud to have such talented sailors on the team and to be able to compete and win at such a high level,” Marsh said. “We are looking forward to educating more Hillsdale students on sailing technique and strategy as well as helping advanced sailors to continue to develop their skills.”
The Hillsdale College Sailing Club is open to students of all experience levels. The club became an official member of the Midwest Collegiate Sailing Association in 2018.
