Hillsdale College Shooting Sports Center Offers Archery Classes for Home-Schooled Students
HILLSDALE, Mich. — The Hillsdale College John Anthony Halter Shooting Sports Education Center has launched an archery education program for local home-schooled students. The six-week program will walk students through basic skills and safety before moving into stance, form, and marksmanship.
“The shooting sports, including archery, are becoming more and more popular at the K-12 level,” said McLain Driver, membership and site coordinator at the Halter Center. “Hillsdale College has a unique opportunity to encourage that growth in the homeschool community, which doesn’t necessarily have access to equipment or facilities that public and private schools have.”
The program, which runs from Sept. 16 to Oct. 28 on Friday afternoons, takes place at the Bailey Archery Range at the Halter Center. Currently, more than 20 students from two homeschool communities are taking advantage of the new program.
“We have kids with a wide variety of experience levels,” said Driver. “All are welcome — from kids who have grown up shooting in their backyards to kids who have never held a bow before.”
The program is the latest addition to the Halter Center’s member and community activities, which includes camps, conferences, leagues, and seminars for people of all ages and experience levels.
“Anyone can join a league or become a member to take advantage of everything we do at the Halter Center,” said Driver.
