Hillsdale College junior Matt Hoenig, of Monclova, Ohio, spent last summer excavating and studying dinosaur fossils in South Dakota as part of a course titled “Field Methods of Vertebrate Paleontology.” Hoenig accompanied Dr. Tony Swinehart, Hillsdale College Professor of Biology, on the trip, where together they unearthed a variety of fossils. He recently delivered a public lecture at the college about his summer experience, which can be viewed here: http://bit.ly/1Ut6ILt.

“I knew I was interested in paleontology even before I knew what it was called,” said Hoenig. “Many people confuse archeology with paleontology. My goal is to help clarify the differences, encourage dialogue about paleontology and dinosaurs, and address misconceptions about the field.”

A biology major with minors in German and chemistry, Hoenig is involved in Mu Alpha, Big Band, Swing Club, the German Honor Society (Delta Phi Alpha), and the Biology Honorary Society (Beta Beta Beta).
