Hillsdale College Student Takes First Place at National Intercollegiate Broadcasting System Awards

HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College student Elena Lanning, née Naborowski, (‘22) took first place nationally for Most Creative/Innovative Show at this year’s Intercollegiate Broadcasting System Conference hosted in New York City from February 23-26.

Lanning was awarded first place for her show “Five Minute Myths.” This award is WFRH/Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM’s sixth national first-place award from the National Intercollegiate Broadcasting System Awards. Eight other students were named finalists in five categories at this year’s honors. Each finalist was among the top two percent of submissions in each category. Lecturer in Journalism and General Manager of WRFH/Radio Free 101.7 FM Hillsdale Scot Bertram was also named Best Faculty Advisor in radio. Additionally, WFRH/Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM was named a finalist for Best College/University Radio Station (under 10,000 students).

“I am thrilled for all the students whose hard work is being recognized. It’s always exciting and gratifying to have industry professionals acknowledge the outstanding content created by our students at WRFH,” said Bertram. “The station benefits greatly from the passion and commitment our students have for radio and audio.”

The Intercollegiate Broadcasting System Awards are open to all college stations across the country. They present awards each year to college and high school media outlets across more than 100 categories. The full list of winners is available here.
