HILLSDALE, Mich. — The Hillsdale College Tower Players presented their production of “Helen,” by Ellen McLaughlin from March 29 to April 2 in the Quilhot Black Box Theatre at the Fine Arts Building. Students, faculty, and community members enjoyed the performances.

“I am very proud of the hard work all the students have put into this incredible production,”

said Director Michael Beyer. “McLaughlin’s modernization of this ancient work makes the work’s invitations to ponder deep questions about identity, fame, and meaning more accessible.”

The play tells a modernized account of Euripides’ “Helen,” in which Helen never goes to Troy but rather spends the Trojan War in an Egyptian hotel room waiting to be found by the Greeks fighting far off. While living in isolation, Helen is visited by Io, Athena, and, eventually, her husband, Menelaus.

The Tower Players is the branch of the Hillsdale College Theatre Department that produces plays. It performs four main-stage productions each year, as well as numerous one-act and workshop productions. Any Hillsdale College student can perform with Tower Players.
