Hillsdale College Welcomes Acclaimed Author Dennis Covington
Novelist, journalist will share experience writing and researching war in Syria, religion of Appalachia
On Monday, February 18, and Tuesday, February 19, Hillsdale College will host acclaimed author Dennis Covington for two evenings of reading and discussion. Covington will read from his 1995 book Salvation on Sand Mountain: Snake Handling and Salvation in Southern Appalachia on the first evening. On the second, he will read and discuss his 2016 book on the Syrian conflict, Revelation: The Search for Faith in a Violent Religious World.

WHO: Dennis Covington is a writer and journalist. A native of Alabama, he holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia and an MFA from the Iowa Writers Workshop. He is the author of six books: two young adult novels, a memoir on marriage co-authored with his wife, and three non-fiction volumes, including the 1995 National Book Award finalist Salvation on Sand Mountain: Snake Handling and Salvation in Southern Appalachia. His work can be found in The New York Times, Vogue, Esquire, Los Angeles Times Magazine, and other outlets.
