HILLSDALE, Mich. — The Hillsdale College Women Commissioners held their third annual Charger Derby fundraiser at Hillsdale College’s Searle Center on Nov. 12.

The event served as a fundraiser for the Women Commissioners’ Scholarship Fund, which helps students otherwise unable to attend Hillsdale College with tuition costs. This year’s event attracted 230 attendees with more participating remotely by buying a horse or biding on items through the online auction.

“This event is a fun way to bring the community together and support Hillsdale College students,” said Sue Zbozen-McAlpine, charger derby co-chair for the Women Commissioners. “Since 1979, the Women Commissioners have raised more than $4.6 million for our scholarship fund. The derby was once again a great success, and we raised over $92,000.”

The Charger Derby featured simulated horse races, a silent auction, and refreshments. Participants had the option to buy and name a “horse” for the simulated race for $25 or sponsor one of the 12 races for $250. One hundred percent of the funds raised at the event went toward the scholarship fund.
