Hillsdale College’s Action Shooting Sports Team Wins Top Awards at National Competition
Student teams place high in multiple divisions at Scholastic Action Shooting Program
Hillsdale, Mich.— Hillsdale College congratulates the Hillsdale Action Shooting Sports Team on earning top national rankings in multiple divisions at the 2019 Scholastic Action Shooting Program College National Championships hosted in Talladega, Alabama.
“The team has worked incredibly hard to master its craft,” said Adam Burlew, coach of the Hillsdale Action Shooting Sports Team. “The team competed against some of the best shooting sports programs in the country, and we are proud to see their discipline and dedication rewarded on a national stage.”
Eight Hillsdale students traveled to Talladega, Alabama, to compete at the Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP). Teams of four competed across four divisions: 1911, optics rifle, iron rifle, and centerfire pistol.
Hillsdale’s Team 1 claimed first place in the Iron Rifle–Collegiate Squad division. Hillsdale teams placed in the top five of three events overall, including:
- Iron Rifle, Team 1, 1st Place: Aidan Donovan, Chad Schiller, Daniel Berg, Konrad Ludwig
- Iron Rifle, Team 2, 2nd Place: Elias McConnell, Tristan Koch, Seth Johnston, David Grumhaus
- Optics Rifle, Team 1, 2nd Place: Aidan Donovan, Chad Schiller, Daniel Berg, Konrad Ludwig
- Optics Rifle, Team 2, 3rd Place: Seth Johnston, Elias McConnell, Tristan Koch, David Grumhaus
- 1911 Model, Team 1, 4th Place: Tristan Koch, Chad Schiller, Aidan Donovan, David Grumhaus
The SASP was created under the Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation to create a safe place for students to participate in team-based shooting sports. The foundation’s programs across the country bring together coaches, volunteers, and students to develop sportsmanship, ethics, teamwork, and other positive attributes through participation in shooting sports.
Hillsdale College’s shooting sports teams train at Hillsdale’s John Anthony Halter Shooting Sports Education Center, a 103-acre state-of-the-art shooting facility located five miles from campus.
