Hillsdale College’s Anna Vincenzi Receives Emily Daugherty Award for Teaching Excellence
HILLSDALE, Mich. — The 2023 Emily Daugherty Award for Teaching Excellence was presented to Anna Vincenzi, assistant professor of history. Faculty, students, and friends of Hillsdale College recognized Vincenzi at Fall Convocation on Nov. 16.
“Anna Vincenzi stood out as a teacher from the moment we hired her,” said Hillsdale College Provost Chris VanOrman. “The college is proud to have her as a distinguished member of our faculty.”
Vincenzi has been a professor at Hillsdale College since 2020 and teaches introductory and advanced courses in history, including “Nineteenth Century Europe” and “The Fascist Revolution.” Vincenzi earned her Ph.D. in history from University of Notre Dame. Before joining the Hillsdale College faculty, she taught courses at Notre Dame on “Colonial America” and “Contesting the Idea of ‘Europe.’”
“I am honored and humbled to receive this award, especially because I know that it is thanks to the collaboration with my colleagues that I have grown as a teacher since joining the history department at the college four years ago,” said Vincenzi. “I am also grateful to my husband for his support and to the students, who with their commitment and engagement make teaching here so rewarding.”
This annual award is named in honor of Emily Daugherty, who taught in elementary and secondary schools and personified the finest traditions of the teaching profession. Daugherty devoted her life to transmitting knowledge, wisdom, and virtue to her students. The honor has been awarded to 28 other Hillsdale College professors.
