Hillsdale College’s Kirby Center Hosts Discussion With Author Matthew Mehan

Experts examine children’s literature and merits of classical education

On Wednesday, September 5, Hillsdale College’s Allan P. Kirby, Jr. Center for Constitutional Studies and Citizenship will host a discussion between the Center’s Worsham Teaching Fellow Matthew Mehan and Hillsdale’s Dow Journalism Program director John J. Miller on “The Art of Words: An Evening Book Discussion On Classical Education and Children’s Books.” The talk will examine classical education through exploration of Mehan’s children’s book, Mr. Mehan’s Mildly Amusing Mythic Mammals, which is an introduction to the liberal arts for readers ages 8 to 12.

The lecture is free and open to the media, but space is limited and attendees are encouraged to register by visiting the event’s ticketing site here.

WHO:

Matthew Mehan is the Worsham Teaching Fellow at Hillsdale College’s Allan P. Kirby, Jr. Center for Constitutional Studies and Citizenship. He is a teacher at The Heights School in Potomac, Maryland where he directs the Jackson Scholars senior thesis program. He earned his doctorate in literature from the University of Dallas.

John J. Miller is the director of Hillsdale College’s Herbert H. Dow II Program in American Journalism. He is also a national correspondent for National Review, host of “The Bookmonger” podcast and author of many books, including Reading Around: Journalism on Authors, Artists, and Ideas and The Big Scrum: How Teddy Roosevelt Saved Football. He earned his degree in English from the University of Michigan.
