HILLSDALE, Mich. — Organist Craig Cramer performed in Hillsdale College’s Christ Chapel on Oct. 14. Cramer’s performance included work by Bach, Buxtehude, Zahnbrecher, Smyth, and Fauchard.

“Craig Cramer is a highly respected and talented organist and teacher. His decades of experience and skill were on display throughout the performance and during the time he spent coaching our organ students. It was a pleasure hosting him on campus,” said Associate Professor of Music Derek Stauff.

Cramer received degrees from Westminster Choir College and then Eastman School of Music, where he graduated with a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Organ Performance. Along with this milestone, Eastman awarded Cramer the Performer’s Certificate in Organ. After receiving his degrees, Cramer taught organ at the University of Notre Dame. After 39 years at Notre Dame, he retired and became a visiting professor at Yale University from 2020-2022. One of the most traveled organists of his generation, Cramer’s profession has taken him to Canada, China, Mexico, most countries in Europe, and 44 of the United States.

Hillsdale College’s Christ Chapel features chancel and galley organs, each designed by Paul Fritts & Company Organ Builders of Tacoma, Washington. Fritts has produced organs for Princeton Theological Seminary, the Eastman School of Music, and the Basilica of the Sacred Heart at the University of Notre Dame.
