HILLSDALE, Mich. — The Rotary Club of Somers hosted their 51st annual Fishing Derby at the Blake Center for Faith and Freedom on May 27. The derby honored the memory of Paul Monstello, a former member of the Somers Rotary Club.

“Hillsdale College was delighted to host the 51st Annual Somers Rotary Fishing Derby at the Blake Center for Faith and Freedom,” said Executive Director of the Blake Center Labin Duke. “It was a record turnout with about 200 people in attendance. And we look forward to hosting the event again in future years.”

The event, free of cost to all who attended, lasted two hours. All participants were twelve years old or younger. Competitors met at the pond behind the Blake Center’s replica of Monticello with their families for the derby. The Rotary Club distributed prizes to those who caught the first fish, the largest fish, the most fish, and the largest golden trout.
