HILLSDALE, Mich., Sept. 16, 2019 — Three K-12 school affiliates of Hillsdale College, a leading proponent of classical K-12 education, earned recognition for their high scores as top U.S. high schools based on a list released by the Classic Learning Test (CLT). An alternative college entrance exam focused on reading, writing, and math skills, CLT developed its rankings based on the testing of 30,000 students at more than 1,200 schools over the past four years.

Hillsdale Academy, a private K-12 school established by the College, ranked third in the nation, according to CLT. Sister schools also affiliated with Hillsdale College through its Barney Charter School Initiative (BCSI) also did well; Golden View Classical Academy and Northwest Arkansas Classical Academy ranked among the top 25 schools.

“The CLT Top 25 ranking is a remarkable achievement and further evidence that the Hillsdale model is a high-quality educational option for young scholars,” said Dr. Kathleen O’Toole, Hillsdale College Assistant Provost for K-12 Education. “Our students are educated in the liberal arts and perform well in the classroom and in life, becoming citizens who are equipped to live well and make virtuous choices.”

The aim of classical education is the dissemination of knowledge, which should be purposeful and begin at an early age. The model empowers students to go beyond critical thinking skills and to furnish their minds and imaginations. The curriculum developed by Hillsdale College emphasizes the core disciplines of math, science, history, and language arts, with significant attention to music, art, and foreign languages. Each of these disciplines is taught with an emphasis on the history and traditions of American citizens as the inheritors of Western civilization.

Hillsdale College provides support to charter schools through consultation, instructional coaching and training, and curriculum resource development. For more information on Hillsdale College, visit hillsdale.edu.
