Radio Free Hillsdale Named College Radio Station of the Year by Michigan Association of Broadcasters
Students’ work recognized in state and nationwide contests
Hillsdale, Mich. – Hillsdale College congratulates the students of WRFH/Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM, the College’s student-run radio station, on earning multiple awards, including College Radio Station of the Year, from the Michigan Association of Broadcasters and the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System.
“We are proud of our students and all of their hard work in creating some of the best radio programming in the state and indeed the country,” said Scot Bertram, general manager of WRFH/Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM. “They have dedicated themselves to producing high-quality content, and it’s satisfying to see others recognize their passion and effort.”
Students report, produce, and host a variety of news and talk programs for Radio Free Hillsdale. In addition to the College Radio Station of the Year honor, Hillsdale students received the following awards from the Michigan Association of Broadcasters:
First Place, Current Events Program:

Second Place, Daily Newscast/News Feature:

First Place, On-Air Personality or Team:
“Wait, What Happened?” – Sarah Schutte, Chandler Lasch
First Place, Talk Show:
“American View” – Ben Dietderich, Jenna Suchyta
Honorable Mention, Sports Announcing Team:
“Hillsdale Academy vs. Bellevue” – Cole McNeely, Martin Petersen

IBS’ college and high school awards programs honor excellence in student media work across more than 100 categories. The 2018-2019 awards received 2,700 submissions from schools around the country.
