Aaron Schepps

Aaron Schepps, a senior from Chandler, Arizona, is an outstanding example of the type of well-balanced, active, and successful student that emerges from the Hillsdale College English department.

Aside from being a member of the History honorary and the Buddies program, a G.O.A.L club leader, a contributor to the Collegian, and a student ambassador, Aaron is a writer for and former editor-in-chief of Tower Light, the student-run literary publication that publishes once a semester and features student poetry, short stories, and articles.

Although Aaron’s education at Hillsdale has been a huge contributor to his success in and out of the classroom, Aaron credits a lot of his personal development to the community at Hillsdale.

“I spend a lot of time with my professors in office hours and even eat dinner with them. The principles of the college definitely lend themselves to this community, and you feel like you’re a part of a larger project when you get to be in such close contact with your professors.”

In regards specifically to academics, Aaron came to Hillsdale intending on majoring in physics and philosophy, but soon found the English department the center of his attention.

“The English major at Hillsdale involves philosophy, theology, and literature all in one, while teaching you how to think and write effectively. The education here is unique in the way it structures itself, teaching you to be well versed in subject but also a self-governing human being.”

Aaron publishes his poetry, short stories, and articles online and shares them with friends and family, although he hopes to one day write more seriously for greater publication. Aaron is currently looking to teach at a Hillsdale-affiliated charter school so that he can promote the ideals of the College and introduce the privatized, liberal arts curriculum to others.

Aaron will be getting married the day after graduation in his favorite professor’s backyard.

A freshman at Hillsdale, Christina Dressel is currently pursuing a Politics and Spanish double major. She hopes to study abroad in Spain and eventually work in marketing or business. Christina is also a new member of the Chi Omega sorority and participates in both club and intramural volleyball.
