HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College announces the new cohort of Kehoe Family Initiative for Entrepreneurial Excellence Student Fellows. The fellowship is a five-semester program for Hillsdale College students who aim to join the free market as entrepreneurs after they graduate. Sophomores of all majors were invited to apply during the fall 2022 semester.

“The Kehoe Family Initiative for Entrepreneurial Excellence is a rigorous fellowship that provides invaluable resources and experiences to Hillsdale College students who want to start their own businesses after graduation,” said Ken Koopmans, executive director of Career Services at Hillsdale College.

The Kehoe Family Initiative includes two business courses, seminars and workshops, and the opportunity to hear from established entrepreneurs through the Executive Speaker Series. Students also have access to The Experts’ Nexus, a group of alumni and other professionals who are experts in their fields and willing to connect with students; summer apprenticeships; and the opportunity to pitch their business ideas to a panel of entrepreneurs and other professionals. The initiative awards a $10,000 scholarship over the course of five semesters to each accepted student.

“For more than 175 years, Hillsdale College has championed the idea that a free-market economy is the system to allow for individuals to provide for their families and communities,” said Koopmans. “Many of our students enter the free market with an interest in entrepreneurship, and we are excited to be able to help prepare these students for that pursuit.” The New Cohort of fellows attended a LaunchPad Symposium from Jan. 11-13. The symposium was an opportunity for the cohort to meet, learn more about the program, and begin planning concrete steps toward the creation of a business. Students participated in several activities and heard from speakers about leadership and developing a business plan.

The Kehoe Family Initiative was made possible by Kevin Kehoe, who passed away in September 2022. Kehoe started his consulting firm, Kehoe & Co., in 1993. He founded The Aspire Software Company in 2014, and in 2021, he sold the company to Service Titan and established the Kehoe Family Foundation. Kehoe was a widely published business writer in his consulting niche and published an autobiographical memoir, “One Hit Wonder: The Real-Life Adventures of an Average Guy and the Lessons He Learned Along the Way.”
