HILLSDALE, Mich. — The Hillsdale College Percussion Ensemble performed on March 25 in McNamara Rehearsal Hall. Their performance, titled a “Vintage Percussion Ensemble,” featured some of the earliest and most influential percussion ensemble works, such as “Lonisation” by Edward Varese. Students, faculty, staff, and members of the Hillsdale community attended the performance.

Of the 20th-century pieces performed by the ensemble, the program focused on the genres of neoclassical, avant-garde, futurism, and ragtime of the 1930s. “Percussion Ensemble concerts are always energetic,” said Stacey Jones-Garrison, artist-teacher of music and director of percussion ensembles. “The students performed wonderfully, and we are continuously grateful to our enthusiastic and loyal audience.”

The Hillsdale Percussion Ensemble specializes in the performance of percussion chamber music. Founded in 2003, the ensemble consists of students who are involved in percussion studies.
