HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College is hosting its eighth annual Tom Klix Memorial Sporting Clays Classic on September 30 at the John Anthony Halter Shooting Sports Education Center.

The event will have a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start. An awards ceremony and silent auction will follow a luncheon. Items for auction include a hunting package, select firearms, outdoor gear, and gift certificates.

Started and sponsored by the Alumni Association Board, Hillsdale has held this sporting clays tournament each fall since 2016. In 2020 the event was renamed in honor of Tom Klix, a 1975 alumnus of Hillsdale, who passed away in 2019. Klix was an avid skeet shooter and supporter of the Halter Center.

“Tom was a great guy. He really loved Hillsdale College and spending time at the range,” said Colleen McGinness, executive director of Alumni Relations. “This event is a great way to celebrate his memory and have a lot of fun.”

The entry fee is $250 per person and includes lunch. Teams of four are encouraged, and there are several sponsorship opportunities available for local businesses. All proceeds support shooting sports operations at Hillsdale College.

In September 2019, Hillsdale College announced a partnership with USA Shooting, the national governing body for American shooting sports. Through this partnership, the Halter Center is designated as the official Home of the USA Shooting National Team and sanctioned shooting sports development programs.
