Hillsdale Wind Symphony Performs at Markel Auditorium
HILLSDALE, Mich. — The Hillsdale Wind Symphony performed at Markel Auditorium on May 5. The orchestra, directed by Adjunct Professor of Music Robert A. Livingston, hosted its concert titled “A Spring Thing.”
The performance consisted of six pieces, including Malcolm Arnold’s “H.R.H. The Duke of Cambridge,” Gustav Holst’s four-movement “Second Suite in F,” and Percy Grainger’s “Country Gardens” arranged by John Philip Sousa. Following intermission, the orchestra performed Leonard Bernstein’s “A Simple Song (from Mass)” arranged by Michael Sweeney, Samuel R. Hazo’s “Sòlas Ané,” and concluded with John Philip Sousa’s “The Fairest of the Fair.”
“The annual spring concert was a great success,” said Livingston. “The group worked hard throughout the semester during rehearsals, and it was rewarding to see that pay off.”
The Hillsdale Community Wind Symphony is open for participation to members of the surrounding Hillsdale community and Hillsdale College students, faculty, and staff. The group performs standard band and wind ensemble repertoire with full instrumentation.
