Additional Staff Information for Kenneth Calvert
Dr. Kenneth Calvert is the headmaster of Hillsdale Academy, an independent, classical K-12 school located on the campus of Hillsdale College. He is also associate professor of ancient history at Hillsdale College. Dr. Calvert teaches upper divisional courses on ancient history at Hillsdale College as well as ninth-grade ancient history at Hillsdale Academy. He hosts online courses offered by Hillsdale College, including “Stories and the Teaching of History” in A Proper Understanding of K-12 Education: Theory and Practice, and “Early Christianity” in History 101: Western Heritage — From the Book of Genesis to John Locke.
Dr. Calvert earned a B.A. in sociology and anthropology from Wheaton College, an M.Div. in patristic studies from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, a Th.M. in ancient Christian literature from Harvard University, and a Ph.D. in ancient history with medieval studies from Miami (Ohio) University.
Dr. Calvert serves on several boards, such as the Alwin C. Carus Coin Collection Committee at Hillsdale College and the Henry Salvatori Award for Teaching Excellence Selection Committee. He has contributed to numerous scholarly works, including the Handbook of Christianity in Education, the Encyclopedia of the Ancient World, and the Encyclopedia of Historians and Historical Writings.
