Garden Party: The Event of the Season

Student Activities Board’s Garden Party always provides a much-needed spark to kick off the weekend: an opportunity to dress up, hang out with friends, and hit the dance floor.

Military Leadership Alumni: Victoria Schmidt, ’21

Victoria Schmidt, ’21, had the opportunity to take several Military Leadership courses with Dr. Peter Jennings. Victoria said these were the most important classes she took at Hillsdale. “Prior to these classes, I was quite naive, and the basis of the military’s appeal was my desire for adrenaline and adventure.”

Military Leadership Alumni: Kyle Froisland, ’20

Kyle Froisland, ’20, had the pleasure of taking “Sound Learning for Leadership,” “Military Leadership,” and “American Military Officership.” These courses were crucial for his personal and professional development prior to accepting his commission. “The education I gained allowed me to better understand the ethos of a military officer and how I could embody this ethos.”

The Policy Translator: Myers Mixes Business, Politics as Caterpillar Lobbyist

Christopher Myers, ’92, is a translator—but not of a foreign language. As the director of International and Federal Government Affairs, Global Government and Corporate Affairs for Caterpillar, Myers “translates” between business and politics in his role as a lobbyist in Washington, D.C.

Military Leadership Alumni: Grant Boyes, ’22

Grant Boyes, ’22, had the opportunity to take several Military Leadership courses that prepared him for officership. Military Leadership laid the cornerstone for him as a young officer, helping him to understand the character and knowledge required to be a platoon commander.

When Doug Goodnough, ’90, learned his baseball teammate, Troy Salvior, ’90, was being inducted into the Hillsdale College Athletic Hall of Fame, a light bulb clicked: This was the opportunity to make a reunion happen. There will never be a better Homecoming.

Jennifer Link Lippus, ’91, is encouraging others to get behind the Kirby Center and WHIP specifically, because she’s watching it grow. “To think about what a great experience I had and to have that open and available to a broader group of students—to me, that says it all.”
