Hillsdale College Professor Moreno Delivers Fourth Freshman Foundation Lecture

HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College Dean of Social Sciences and William and Berniece Grewcock Chair in Constitutional History Paul Moreno gave the fourth lecture for the Freshman Foundation series on March 21, addressing the fourth of Hillsdale College’s four pillars: freedom.

Hillsdale College to Host 2023 National Shotgun Championship

HILLSDALE, Mich. — The John Anthony Halter Shooting Sports Education Center at Hillsdale College will host the 2023 USA Shooting National Championship. The skeet match will be held from May 17 to 22 and the trap competition will be held from May 23 to 28.

Hillsdale College Holds Third CCA of the Academic Year: “Classical Greece and Rome”

HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College hosted its third Center for Constructive Alternatives seminar of the 2022-23 academic year from Feb. 5-8. The seminar, titled “Classical Greece and Rome,” explored the history, philosophy, and literature of classical Greece and Rome. Study of ancient Greece and Rome, once a central element of a liberal arts education has largely disappeared from college and university curricula. Hillsdale College promotes the study of the classics through its required Classical Liberal Arts Core and through these types of lecture programs.  

Hillsdale College Student Caleb Sampson Wins 2023 Edward Everett Prize in Oratory

HILLSDALE, Mich. — The Office of the Provost and Department of Rhetoric and Public Address at Hillsdale College hosted the annual Edward Everett Prize in Oratory on March 7. The theme of this year’s Edward Everett Prize was “Is Social Media Good for Us?” This is the 23rd year that the competition has been held. Junior Caleb Sampson won the first-place prize of $3,000.

Hillsdale College Hosts Reception in Charleston

HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College President Larry P. Arnn hosted a reception at The Charleston Gaillard Center in Charleston, South Carolina, on March 21. Guests were invited to attend a gift and estate planning seminar and a featured talk by Dr. Arnn on “Preserving Our Country.”

Hillsdale College Radio Station Wins Top Honors at Michigan Association of Broadcasters Awards

HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College’s radio station WRFH/Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM received top honors at the 2023 Michigan Student Broadcast Awards, hosted by the Michigan Association of Broadcasters on March 15. The station was named the “2023 College Audio Station of the Year” and received nine individual awards.

HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College hosted a Freedom Forum in The Villages, Florida on March 13 and 14. The two-day seminar focused on the theme “Freedom and Western Civilization” and included six lectures by three Hillsdale College faculty members. The lectures offered an introductory overview of the kind of education students receive at Hillsdale College.

Hillsdale College Jazz Big Band Performs at Elmhurst Jazz Festival

HILLSDALE, Mich. — The Hillsdale College Big Band performed at the 56th annual Elmhurst Jazz Festival on Feb. 25. Guest artists and jazz bands from other colleges and universities attended and performed at the festival. The band played “All the Things You Are,” “Human Error,” “Jamie,” and “On the Sunny Side of the Street.”
