Hillsdale College Physics Alumni, Professor Participate in Groundbreaking International Research Work on Gravitational Waves

HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College Associate Professor of Physics Timothy Dolch and two physics alumni co-authored a study that discovered the existence of gravitational waves that oscillate slowly — some with a frequency of years or even decades. These gravitational waves, which were first hypothesized by Albert Einstein in his general theory of relativity, were observed in data acquired by the North American Nanohertz Observatory for Gravitational Waves (NANOGrav). As part of their research, the Hillsdale colleagues reviewed, recorded, and analyzed the NANOGrav data.

Hillsdale College K-12 Education Awards 2023 Salvatori Prize to Atlanta Classical Academy

HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College has awarded the 2023 Henry Salvatori Prize for Excellence in Teaching to Atlanta Classical Academy. A member school of Hillsdale College’s Barney Charter School Initiative, Atlanta Classical Academy, received the award on June 19 during the K-12 Education Office’s annual Summer Conference in Classical Education in Hillsdale, Michigan.

Hillsdale College Graduates Awarded Barry Foundation Scholarship

Somers Rotary Club Hosts Annual Fishing Derby at Blake Center for Faith and Freedom

HILLSDALE, Mich. — The Rotary Club of Somers hosted their 51st annual Fishing Derby at the Blake Center for Faith and Freedom on May 27. The derby honored the memory of Paul Monstello, a former member of the Somers Rotary Club.

Hillsdale College Halter Center Hosts USA Shooting Shotgun National Championships

HILLSDALE, Mich. — The Hillsdale College John Anthony Halter Shooting Sports Education Center hosted the USA Shooting Skeet and Trap National Championships. The skeet competition took place from May 17-22; the trap competition took place from May 23-28. These championships selected the 2023 World Championship Team and Pan American Team. It was also the first part of the Olympic Trials for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

Joey Barretta Presents Doctoral Research

HILLSDALE, Mich. — Doctoral student Joey Barretta presented his dissertation research titled “Frederick Douglass on the Necessary Prescriptions of Freedom: Proscriptions for Post-Slavery America” on Nov. 1. Barretta spoke on Douglass’s writings and political philosophy during the post-Civil War and Reconstruction periods.

Hillsdale College Classics Students Win National Translation Contest Awards

HILLSDALE, Mich. — Four members of the Hillsdale College chapter of Eta Sigma Phi, the national classics honorary, placed in the top three and one received an honorable mention in the annual Maurine Dallas Watkins Translation Contests. The students competed for cash prizes against other Eta Sigma Phi chapters, as they sight translated passages from Greek and Latin.

Outstanding Seniors and Top Academic Graduates Recognized at Hillsdale College Commencement

Hillsdale College Breaks Ground on New Graduate School of Classical Education

HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College celebrated the groundbreaking for the new Diana Davis Spencer Graduate School of Classical Education on May 12. The building will house the graduate program in classical education, which first held classes in August 2022. Hillsdale College President Larry P. Arnn and Dean of the Graduate School of Classical Education Daniel Coupland provided remarks.
