HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College announces the addition of two new members to its Board of Trustees: David R. Hough and Nersi Nazari.

Labin Duke Named Executive Director of the Blake Center for Faith and Freedom

Somers, Conn. — Hillsdale College is pleased to announce that Labin Duke will serve as the first executive director of the Blake Center for Faith and Freedom. With more than 10 years of experience working for non-profit, Christian organizations, Duke will guide the College’s religious, educational, and outreach efforts in Somers, Connecticut.

Hillsdale College Hosts Annual Day of Thanks

HILLSDALE, Mich. — The Hillsdale College Student Activities Board, the 1844 Society, and the Alumni Office invited students to the Grewcock Student Union on Thursday, Nov. 18, for the College’s annual Day of Thanks card-writing event. From 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., students dropped by to write and address cards to friends, family, donors, professors, and others who have donated their gifts and time to the College.

Hillsdale College to Launch New Online Course on American Citizenship

HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College released its newest free online course, “American Citizenship and Its Decline,” on Nov. 16. The course is taught by historian Victor Davis Hanson with an introduction by Hillsdale College President Larry P. Arnn.

Hillsdale, Mich. — The Harry James Orchestra, directed by Fred Radke, made its third visit to campus for an evening of big band swing music and dancing on Nov. 11.

Christian Faith and Liberal Learning Discussed at Freshman Foundation Lecture

HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College hosted its third Freshman Foundation Lecture and luncheon at the Searle Center on Nov. 16. Matthew Young, dean of natural sciences and professor of chemistry, offered a lecture to the freshman class on Christianity. Faith being one of the four pillars of a Hillsdale College education, Young discussed how Christianity relates to intelligent piety and the pursuit of a liberal education.

Visiting Writers Program Hosts Poet Dana Gioia

HILLSDALE, Mich. — Since its establishment in the late 1980s by Daniel Sundahl, former professor of English at Hillsdale College, the Visiting Writers Program has brought nationally-renowned novelists, professors, and poets to campus. Poet Dana Gioia is the most recent participant in the program and spoke in Plaster Auditorium on Nov. 10.  

Hillsdale College Hosts Fall Convocation, Presents Academic Awards

HILLSDALE, Mich. — Students, faculty, and staff members gathered in Hillsdale College’s Christ Chapel for the College’s annual fall convocation on Nov. 11. The purpose of the traditional ceremony is to celebrate excellence among its students and faculty. This year’s keynote speaker was poet and literary critic Dana Gioia, who spoke on the importance of beauty in today’s world.

Second Annual Women Commissioners Charger Derby Helps Raise Scholarship Funds

HILLSDALE, Mich. — The Hillsdale College Women Commissioners hosted their second annual Charger Derby in the Searle Center on Nov. 6. The event raises funds for the Women Commissioners scholarship fund, which this year is assisting 35 Hillsdale College students.

Hillsdale College Honors Veterans at Two Weekend Events

HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College hosted Military Appreciation Day at the Halter Center for Shooting Sports Education and on campus as part of the College’s football activities on Saturday, Nov. 6. Nearly 200 veterans and active-duty members and their families attended both events.
